THE SOUTH KERRY CAMERA CLUBS VISIT TO THE VALENTIA LIGHTHOUSE

This Sunday morning saw the South Kerry camera Club members meet at Kightstown, Valentia Island, for a visit to the Valentia Lighthouse. This trip was organised by Richard Foran, a club member who kindly gave us a conducted tour. Richard was responsible for our tour of the Skelligs lighthouse earlier this year, and is an authority on the local lighthouses and their history.  Many thanks to Richard is due from all members attending!

A read of the above gives some history

Looking into the harbour approach

Only light spray today, tide was about to turn

Sunlight on the water

Taken through a Red window in the light housing

The main light power

Soon to be restored by the Heritage Trust, and may be rented out. Still has a cell below it.

The light is internally immaculate

A left over cannon from Cromwell's days

Looking down the barrel as they say!!

The main generator room, also immaculate, top marks lads!!

Any home would be proud of these banisters!

The approach to the light, we were lucky to get this trip, its not currently open to the public.

Not much room inside for the members photos.

Access  door to outer balcony

These holes allow air in to cool the light and to prevent the windows from steaming up!

Time to say goodbye to another South Kerry Camera Club spectacular!!!
