SOUTH KERRY CAMERA CLUB PHOTO EXHIBITION AT TECH AMERGIN WATERVILLE.

On Sunday the 19th June, the South Kerry Camera Club opened an exhibition of photographs at Tech Amergin, Waterville, the theme of the exhibition is churches in the south Kerry area. The exhibition was officially opened by Frank Lewis, who had certainly done his homework on the photos that were displayed, he went through each of the photos, giving historic facts about each, with great enthusiasm and gusto, and named the photographers responsible each photo. The camera club has 40 Photographs in the exhibition, and Frank was presented with a photo taken by professional photographer Michael Herrmann taken on Skellig Michael.

JACKS BAR SUNDAY 19TH JUNE

Last evening in Jacks bar Cromane was heaving with people enjoying themselves, the following photos are a few from the evening.

HANNAH MARY'S CHARITY FUN DAY

The Hanna Mary's Charity Family Fun Day, was well supported despite looming storm clouds and high winds, (I understand that there was 86 entries of cycles),and although a heavy shower fell during the following BBQ, all cyclist had completed the course by then. I was pleased to complete the 16k course in 1Hr 5mins, as I hadn't been on my bike for two years. The BBQ was very busy after the event, with burgers and hot dogs flying off the grill. Well done Jerome on a well organised event, and I hope the final tally will net plenty of Euros for the local charity's.

CROMANE BLESSING OF THE BOATS

Another annual event in Cromane's calendar took place at 4:00pm this Bank Holiday Monday, "The blessing of the boats". Local Cromane fishermen nudge their boats up to the shore at Lower Cromane, where the blessing ceremony takes place. The local Priest Father Flemming, holds a mass, and performs the blessing ceremony. Members of the church choir sing hymns, children read prayers, and played tin whistles, guitars, and a squeeze box. All of the fishing community attend, and the priest blesses each boat in turn. A cup is presented to the best boat each year, that usually ends up in the local bar, where it gets filled with a little tipple, and is then passed around everyone in the bar for a sip, congratulations go to John Joe Reilly, this years cup winner! The ceremony for any that have not experienced it is very touching, and a not to be missed event.

CROMANE FAMILY FUN DAY.

The annual Cromane Family Fun Day, was held as usual at the Cromane GAA pitch, and on a fine blustery day, it attracted hundreds of people. The children attending all seemed to be enjoying the events set for them including: - football, running races, sack races, three legged races. As an additional attraction, bouncy castles and face painting was also very popular with the children. The Burger bar had a long queue of people all afternoon, and had to send out for more food as the day went on. At the end of the day, medals were handed out to all children participating in events, putting a proud smile on the children's faces.

The following is a selection of my photos from the day, but for legal reasons I cannot publish the many photos I took of children playing football and enjoying other events, as such I will pass a CD containing all of my photos to Pat Casey who can legally publish them on the GAA web site as he see fit, or pass them on to parents.

JACKS BBQ IN AID OF DEBRA IRELAND.

The evening of the BBQ was warm, but very breezy making it difficult to keep the lettuce on your plates, but everyone seemed to enjoy the BBQ that had burgers, chicken and lamb koftas, along with the usual salads. Following the BBQ, music inside the bar, provided by students and professional entertainers, was enjoyed by all throughout the evening. The evening was held in aid of the charity Debra of Ireland, and was well organised by the Fox family, who were busy throughout the evening, (well the ladies were anyway), Tighe was enjoying a couple of pints, joking aside, many thanks go to the Fox family and Jacks for a good evening.
