A STUDY IN BLACK & WHITE AT LOWER CROMANE

Today's dog walk in lower Cromane on an overcast morning gave me an opportunity to take some shots that I would convert to Black & White, after recommendations from my mentor Michael Herrmann that Black and White gives striking effect in overcast conditions. The following photos, taken in Lower Cromane, Co Kerry, I hope go some way to proving Michael's ideas.

DOOKS MOUNTAIN BOG-WALKING THE DOG

Today 27-02-2012, I decided for a change, to walk the dog at Dooks Mountain bog. The morning was very overcast with dark clouds, so to take some of the following photos, I had to set the ISO to 400 to expose for some of the foliage that was in the shade. I also decided to try to give the foliage shots a dreamy look, so I set the camera to manual focus, then when correct focus was indicated, I shifted the focus slightly to give the photos a dreamy soft focus look, these photos are not intended to be sharp focus macro shots.  It may not be to everyones taste, but I love to experiment to see what results I can get. As you will see, I didn't do the same with the landscape shots.

A SUNDAY DRIVE TO CASTLE GREGORY VIA THE SLIEVE MISH.

As today was so nice, I asked my wife if she fancied a drive out and she agreed, and quickly made some sandwiches and goodies to eat, then along with the dog and my Pentax K5 kit, we set out to Aughils on the Dingle road, where we took the turn to Camp via the pass over the Slieve Mish Mountains. Today's photos actually included some taken earlier in the day at Lower Cromane, and as you will see as the photos progress, I managed to take some special views of Lower Cromane Point, from high up on the Slieve Mish mountain. Our drive would take us to Camp on the other side of the Slieve Mish, where we decided to travel to Castle Gregory via the coast road, and onward to Kilshannig, where I captured some nice photos of the Seven Hogs of the Magharee Islands.
