Boats

Eight photos of Arthur McCathy's  Trawler at lower Cromane 01-06-2011

OYSTER BOATS OF CROMANE.

These boats are entirely made of aluminium construction, and have flat bottoms to enable them to operate alongside the oyster trestles in only inches of water. The engine is mounted on a movable transom board that allows the engine to be easily raised or lowered by means of a hand winch according to the operating depth of water. These boats are produced in France by Mulot, who manufacture them especially for shellfish industry.

FISHING BOATS OF CROMANE AT ANCHOR IN CROMANE BAY.

The following photos are of the mussel trawlers of Cromane. These boats have a  flat hull that allows them to operate in very shallow waters, and are often seen operating in the bay, either collecting seed, sewing seed, or harvesting the fully grown product.
