During mass at the ‘Star of The Sea’ Church in Cromane on Sunday 8th July Mrs Hannah O’Riordan was presented with the Benemerenti medal in recognition of her long and faithful services to the church. The medal was presented to her by the Very Rev.Michael Canon Fleming, and was followed by tea and cakes in the local community centre, where lots of Hannah’s friends and neighbours gathered to personally congratulate her, and enjoy the tea and cakes.
Hannah is a good neighbor of ours and lives just two houses along the road.
Dave's Photo's was there to record the event!
ABOUT THE MEDAL:
The benemerenti is a medal instituted by Pope Gregory XVI in 1832, and is conferred on those who have exhibited long and exceptional service to the Catholic Church, their families and community. The word benemerenti which means to a well deserving person, is on the back of the medal, surrounded by a crown of oak leaves; the ribbon is made of Papal colours, yellow and white.
