SOUTH KERRY CAMERA CLUB VISIT GLENBEIGH BEACH AND THE WRECK OF THE SUNBEAM

This evening 3rd May, the South Kerry Camera Club visited Rossbeigh Beach, Co Kerry to take photos on the beach, and especially capture the wreck of the Sunbeam. The evening was bright early on, but got very cold as the evening progressed, with twelve members turning up for the experience.

The old wreck can get almost completely covered in sand making it barely visible at times, but this evening the sands were well washed away, exposing more of the old boat than I have seen for some time.

The following photos are those taken by me on the evening.

ABOUT THE SUNBEAM:

Schooner Sunbeam. A Wooden Schooner Built in 1860 by Walters in Exmouth. She was owned by her Builder up to the late 1870s and was then bought by Richard Kearon of Arklow. In January 1903 when on a Voyage from Kinvara to Cork she was driven ashore in a storm and wrecked with no loss of life.
