DAVE'S PHOTOS AT BALLYKISSANE PIER THIS EVENING 9PM

On a lovely evening, with beautiful skies I headed for Ballykissane pier to take some photos. This is a lovely spot in Killorglin, Co Kerry. The following photos are those taken in at Ballykissane pier and the nearby area.
Please find below the history of this wonderful place!

Back in 1916 Ireland was still under British rule and had suffered over 700 years of oppression from unwanted British rule. Most visitors to Ireland will hear about the “1916 Rising”, this was a rebellion aimed at ending British rule in Ireland and establishing an Irish Republic. Anyone who has a deep interest in Irish history has to visit the site of where the first 3 volunteers died. This happened about 2km from Killorglin town. Three men were on their way to Caherciveen to take over radio equipment for the purpose of diverting the British Navy, and signalling a German Arms ship  called “The Aud” with Sir Roger Casement (One of the most famous Irish Patriots who was executed for treason by the British Oppressors) These three men were members of a party of four who took tragically took a wrong turn and were drowned when their car plunged into the sea. The Ballykissane Monument was erected to commemorate the deaths of Conn Keating, Donal Sheahan and Charlie Monaghan at Ballykissane pier on 21 April 1916 as they attempted to assist the importation of arms on board the Aud for the 1916 Rising.
The 1916 Rising was crushed by the British who had superior numbers but there is still much debate whether the men who died at Ballykissane pier Killorglin had succeeded if the result might have been different.

The South Kerry Camera Club outing to the Cliff walk at Portmagee

This evening, 24-05-13, the south Kerry Camera Club members visited the cliff walk at Portmagee, where stunning views, including the Skelligs, make photography a pleasure. This evenings weather was very kind to us, even though the wind was a little cold, the members and guests enjoyed the evenings photography.

The following photos are those taken by me this evening, I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoyed taking them!
